Below is a list of upcoming Minnesota Employment Law Changes that will take effect starting July 1 and August 1, 2023.
Future Employment laws to take into consideration
Earned Sick and Safe Time (ESST): Effective January 1, 2024
Current Information on ESSTPaid Family and Medical Leave (PFML):
Effective November 1, 2025:
- Requirement to post notice of rights provide individual notice to employee of rights
- Protection from retaliation, prohibition on interference (employees can file application for benefits up to 60 days before leave need starts)
Effective January 1, 2026:
- Benefit availability
- Right to reinstatement (i.e., right to take protected leave)
- Start payroll deductions and include on paystubs
Steps Moving Forward
Given these changes, employers should consider reviewing their employment and contractor agreements and policies to ensure they comply with the changes.
